KOLLAM: A sub-inspector has been transferred in connection with the incident where an old man was manhandled during a vehicle inspection in Ayoor. The officer has been transferred to KAP 5 battalion in Kuttikanam for rigorous training. Manjappara native Ramanandan was beaten by probation SI Najeem. Further actions will be taken after investigation, Kollam Rural SP said.

The incident took place during a vehicle inspection by Chadayamangalam police. Police say that Ramanandan and Podimon, the bike rider who accompanied him didn’t have the supporting documents to prove license and vehicle ownership. The police asked them to pay a fine of Rs 500 each. But the duo said they are daily wage labourers and don't have money with them which initiated the conflict.

Ramanandan Nair told the police that he is a patient, but the police tried to take them into custody by using force. First Podimon was forced in the police vehicle. Ramanandan Nair resisted the police attempt and probation SI Najeem slapped him. Some shot the incident on a mobile phone and this later was posted on the internet and became big news. The disciplinary action soon followed.
