KATTAKKADA: An Adivasi boy was killed by a wild elephant by hurling him to the ground with its trunk. The deceased has been identified as Shiju (14), son of Boban and Bindu of Thenmala Settlement in Amboori's Perankallu. The boy's brother Alan (16) and relative Sreejith (18) were admitted to the medical college after suffering injuries.

On Wednesday morning around 10 am, they set out to Komba forest area from Thenmala Settlement to collect wild fruits after crossing Porimala Kadav in Neyyar. The three were returning after collecting veggies including potato when they happened to find themselves in front of wild elephants at around 1 pm. The wild elephants charged towards them and Alan managed to hide with brother Shiju in a bush. Sreejith went in the opposite direction and climbed a tree. An elephant caught Shiju and hurled him to the ground using its trunk. Few people at the shore of a river heard the noise and informed forest officers.

Following this, forest officers and police reached the spot. Along with the dead body of Shiju, the injured were taken to Neyyar Dam on the forest department's boat and then taken to the medical college.
