THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There are reports that the State government is planning to enhance its publicity campaign through social media despite being beset with financial troubles.
The government’s decision is to give a big publicity to the welfare activities it had carried out over the past four and a half years. For this, the government plans to hire a new ad agency with a national reputation and good experience.
The government has started the ground work for this. The irony is that the government is going for this grand publicity campaign at a time when it is facing a big financial crisis and when it has announced austerity measures including cutting project costs.
Currently the government has PRD and C-DIT to look after the publicity campaign of its welfare activities. Besides this, the government has appointed small PR agencies for its every project.
And, as if that is not enough, the government is now planning to hire a new agency. The PRD has accepted the Request for Proposal to select the agency. The government has also appointed an evaluation committee for selecting the agency.
Meanwhile, it is not clear how much money the government will be spending for hiring the agency. The new order for appointing agency, which has been issued in the wake of the Opposition allegation that the government is making PR agencies overwork, may open up more debates in the coming days.
