THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday said that the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor of Sreenarayana Guru Open University was made on the basis of academic and administrative excellence.
"The decision to name the Open University after Sree Narayana Guru was not a coincidence. Sree Narayana Guru stood for education for all. Guru worked with the idea of educating everyone at a time when education was denied. The university is named after Guru to honour him at the government level. This is a very important time for his principles. Sree Narayana Guru University will function just like other universities," the CM said.
Speaking about the controversy over the appointment of Open University Vice-Chancellor, Vijayan said that the allegations are surprising. "If we look at the Vice-Chancellors of various universities in the state, we can see that they were all appointed on the basis of academic and administrative excellence. The same criteria were followed in Sree Narayana Guru University as well," he added.
