Thiruvananthapuram: Vigilance on Saturday recovered documents of the commission transaction in the Wadakancherry Life Mission project. The documents were found while checking the bank accounts of Sandeep Nair, Sarith and Santosh Eepan. The commission deal was confirmed by questioning Unitac Director Santosh Eepan. However, officials have not received the bank account details of Swapna Suresh.
Vigilance will soon approach the Kochi NIA court to question Swapna and Sandeep. Vigilance obtained documents which prove that Rs 7.5 crore was transferred from UAE Consulate's account to Unitac's account a day after signing the document. Following this, Rs 4.20 crore was transferred from Unitac's account to Sandeep Nair's two bank accounts. Out of this, documents of withdrawal of Rs 3.60 crore were obtained. Santosh Eepan told Vigilance that Swapna had informed him that the money had been handed over in dollars and rupees to Khalid, a consulate employee and a native of Egypt.
It is learnt that Sandeep, Sarith and Swapna had distributed Rs 60 lakh among themselves from the amount obtained from Unitac. Meanwhile, Yadu Surendran, a former employee of Unitac, told Vigilance that Swapna and her team had promised to pay him Rs 6 lakh. However, this amount was not paid. Vigilance also confirmed that the Indian rupee given to Khalid was converted into dollars with the help of a money exchange firm. Santosh Eappen said that Swapna had told him that the money was taken to Dubai and was given to the Consul General. The money was transferred to Dubai via Oman.
At the same time, vigilance is examining whether bribery has taken place at the official level of the Life Mission. Vigilance will visit the Wadakancherry project area. Further inspections may be conducted in Wadakancherry municipality.
