THRISSUR: Four jail officials have been transferred in connection with the death of an accused remanded. The dead has been identified as Shemeer, 32, of Thiruvananthapuram, an accused in a ganja case. Initial investigation reports said that the officials misbehaved with him. Meantime, it has been reviewed that the officials did not torture him leading to his death.

The post-mortem report indicated that brutal attack led to his death. As soon as he died, his relatives had lodged a complaint to the city police commissioner and the DGP. A preliminary probe was conducted based on the complaint.

Shameer, his wife and two others were arrested here on September29 with 10 kg of ganja, which they had allegedly procured from Andhra Pradesh. A local court had remanded all the accused on September 29 and they were taken to the CFLTC at Ambilikala here.

Shameer, who fell unconscious at a quarantine centre, was taken to the General Hospital and later to the Thrissur Medical College Hospital. He died at the jail cell later.
