THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Bail has been granted to Sriram Venkitaraman in the case in which journalist K M Basheer was killed after hit by a speeding car driven by the IAS officer allegedly in an inebriated state. The bail was granted by the Thiruvananthapuram first class judicial magistrate court. Second accused Wafa Firoz was also present in the court. The court had ordered the IAS officer to appear before the court today as he failed to appear twice earlier.

Bail was granted earlier to the second accused Wafa Firoz. As the officer failed to appear in the court, the charge sheet was not read to the accused so far. The charge sheet was read to them today. Basheer was killed on August 3 in 2019 after he was fatally knocked down by the car driven by Sriram. Basheer was killed on the spot itself. Sriram was serving as the survey director at the time the accident happened.
