THRISSUR: Three police officers including Viyuur district jail superintendent were suspended in connection with the death of an accused at the Ambilikala hostel, the quarantine centre of the police department. Speaking to the media, Jail DGP Rishiraj Singh said that superintendent Raju Abraham has been suspended as he should have been more vigilant in order to prevent such actions at the quarantine centre. He also said that the probe into Shemeer's death would be handed over to the district crime branch.

The other two suspended officers are deputy prison officer MS Arun and assistant prison officer AR Ramesh. Two other officers, who were on duty on the day Shemeer died, were transferred earlier. The jail DGP has also decided to shut down Ambilikala hostel, the quarantine centre where the accused will stay till their COVID tests are obtained. From now on, three vacant blocks in the district jail be used as quarantine centre.

The action was based on the jail DGP's visit to the Viyyur sub-jail and Ramapuram juvenile home where a 17-year-old boy was assaulted.
