THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said that the move to cancel audit in local bodies is an attempt to cover corruption. He demanded that the audit director who took the decision to stop the audit should be prosecuted for his decision. The audit director in an order issued in the month of August has said that audit in the year 2019-20 is not needed and the present audit proceedings should be halted until further orders. The opposition leader said that the audit director has no power to issue such an order.
He said that presently things are going contrary to the provisions specified in local fund audit act 1992. “No auditing has happened from August 2020. The government has taken such a decision to cover the corruption in people-centric schemes such as life mission. Earlier this government has also stopped auditing in Kannur airport citing that as its activities are being audited under the company law.” he said. Chennithala also added that if the government is not taking any action against the audit director, then he will approach the court against him.
