NEW DELHI: A fact-finding team on Tuesday accused the Uttar Pradesh police of behaving in a highly suspicious and vicious manner in the Hathras gangrape and murder case. Accusing the police of harassing the girl's family, the team also questioned why the doctors did not examine anything related to sexual assault before the girl gave her statement.
As per the report, the delay in medical probe on sexual assault can only be seen as deliberate since rape cannot be proved by late examination. The report also points out that the victim's father was pressurised by the district administration to convey that he and his family were satisfied with the inquiry and the treatment provided to the girl
The fact-finding team, led by activist Medha Patkar, had visited the victim's family on October 9. 'There is no doubt that the UP police had behaved in a highly suspicious and vicious manner, beyond anyone's expectation and thus they have created doubts about their intentions,' the report stated.
