THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The guidelines for campaigning for local body polls have been issued. Only three including the candidate are allowed while filing nominations. The guidelines asserted that candidates should not accept garlands, bouquets, money garland and a shawl.
Only five including the candidate should visit homes as part of the campaign. Only three vehicles should be used for the road show and vehicle rally. Social media should be used for campaigning. There should not be high octave electoral campaigns on the last day. Campaign jathas should be avoided.
The meet of representatives of political parties convened by the state election commission on September 18 had discussed draft guidelines. State Election Commissioner V Bhaskar said in a press release that the guidelines were prepared on the basis of the decisions taken at the meeting.
Polls will held in 21,865 wards in 941 grama panchayats, 152 block panchayats, 14 district panchayats, 86 municipalities and six municipal corporations. Training for officials as part of polls and EVM first level checking are progressing. The final voters list was published on October 1. The press release asserted that one more chance will be given before the polls to include names in the voters list.
