THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government ordered appointment of women as home guards in the fire and rescue service for the first time in history. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan clarified that a 30% reservation for women has been ensured apart from that.

‘The home guards appointed in fire and rescue and police departments are being deployed in disaster places for rescue operations. The government has by now implemented many schemes for women empowerment. As part of that policy, the government decided to appoint women as home guards and introduce reservation,’ the chief minister said in a Facebook post.
