THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday said that the issue of forward caste reservation was in the manifesto of the Left Democratic Front and the government is only following the same policy. The CM explained that the LDF has put forward a stance that the existing reservation should remain the same and at the same time, 10 per cent reservation should be made for the poor belonging to forward caste groups.
"The RSS is trying to sabotage the reservation that aims to uplift the socially backward sections of the society. The LDF stands firm in its policy of maintaining the reservation for the educationally and socially backward sections of the population as it stands today. At the same time, 10 per cent reservation should be made for the poor belonging to the forward caste sections," the CM said while quoting passages from the LDF manifesto.
The Chief Minister said that a constitutional amendment is necessary for such a situation to arise. He added that the law passed by the Parliament is being implemented in the state and it is a law applicable to the whole country. Those who are opposing the reservation must realise this, he said.
