THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An actor who does not know how to dance will be made a great dancer. An actor who does not know how to fight will be made an excellent fighter. Three Malayalees are planning to introduce such a technology in Indian cinema. This will be made possible by a technology called motion photogrammetry. This is a system that has been implemented in Hollywood. Hollywood movies like Avatar and Huck were made using the same hyper-realistic system.
In the movie Yanthiran, some scenes were shot in this way with the help of foreign technicians. Even if an actor is absent from the film set, this technology will allow the crew to shoot his portions using someone else.
The historic feat has been achieved by a team headed by Thiruvananthapuram Pettah native Binoy Sadasivam, CEO of Trishul Media Entertainment. His team members are cinematographer Sinu Siddharth and 3D artist and sculptor Raju Ratnam. Binoy Sathasivam has worked as a VFX director in Hollywood films. While Sinu Siddharth handled cinematography, Raju Ratnam coordinated the software, including the 3D system. The trio is busy working on a multi-star Bollywood big-budget film. The official announcement will be made soon.
It is a technology that captures the movements and expressions of the actor in photographs and converts them into 3D. If an actor wants to dance like Prabhu Deva, then the movements of both the actor and Prabhu Deva will be subjected to motion capture. Sensors will be attached to Prabhu Deva's hands and feet and he will be made to dance.
The actor will be made to stand at one point and his motion will be filmed using 120 cameras that will be placed around him. He will be made to show some expressions in order to capture his eyebrow movement, limb movement, gaze and so on. Everything else can be shown on the screen as belonging to the actor.
