KOCHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) revealed that apart from M Sivasankar, a second person in the office of the chief minister has connection with Swapna Suresh, accused in the gold smuggling case. The ED has filed a plea in the court to quiz Swapna and her team again to get a clarification on the matter.
Swapna had told the ED that apart from Sivasankar, another person had contacted her. When questioned in detailed, she said he used to call her for visa stamping and certificate attestation.
On checking her phone, it was found that calls had come to this number. The ED suspect that UAFX owner Abdul Latheef is the benami of a top political leader’s son. UAFX had an agreement with the consulate related to visa stamping. It is being investigated whether there are any such connections behind the phone calls.
When the agreement for visa stamping was given to Abdul Latheef’s company, consul general Jamal Hussain Al Sabi got a commission of Rs 1.2 crore and Swapna got Rs 26 lakh. The UAE Consulate gave the reconstruction deal of 150 houses destroyed in floods to Car Palace of Abdul Latheef. In this agreement, Al Sabi got Rs 1.50 crore as commission and Swapna an amount of Rs 52 lakh, the ED said.
