KOCHI: The state government on Tuesday informed the high court that it would reconsider its decision to allow only 1000 devotees to enter Sabarimala temple every day during the Mandala Makaravilakku season. The government informed this while the court was considering a petition filed by Chennai native KP Sunil who demanded that 20,000 devotees should be allowed to offer prayers at the temple every day.
The state attorney, who appeared for the government, explained that entries to the temple were limited to 1,000 devotees per day and that no decision had been made on whether to increase it. A decision will be taken after discussing with the health department. The court also ruled that the number of devotees should be increased. The Devaswom Division Bench also directed the government to take appropriate action and inform about it during the next hearing of the petition.
