KOZHIKODE: Kozhikode DCC President T Siddique and other DCC members, who went to Kozhikode Medical college to see the dead body of Slain Maoist Velmurugan, were prevented by police personnel. The incident happened near the medical college mortuary area.

Heavy police security was maintained in the mortuary area where the postmortem proceedings of the dead body were to be held. T Siddique and other Congress leaders who came here demanded to see the dead body but police didn’t allow them to see it. This led to clashes between the two groups and later police personnel removed them from the site. Police also denied nod to Kozhikode MP K Raghavan to see the body. Velmurugan’s relatives were shown the dead body after they sought special permission from authorities concerned. However, the Congress leaders said that they conducted sit-in protests as the police denied permission to them to see the body and talk to Velmurugan’s relatives. They alleged that the Maoist hunting is only meant to save the face of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan whose government is in a precarious situation for getting involved in various scams.
