THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPI came to the fore against the police firing in Wayanad. What happened is a unilateral approach and if it was an encounter then how did the police not sustain any injuries, asked CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran.

‘There is no Maoist threat in Kerala. Threat is for the police alone. It is the need of the police to conduct such encounters. This is to get central fund. If the report is against the police then it will not come out. The thunderbolt should withdraw from the encounter,’ said Kanam.

Kanam sought a magisterial probe on the incident. Meantime, he said there are no differences of opinion in the CPI. Things that are not happening in the party committee are coming out, he said.
