KASARGOD: Police intensifies search operations for Pookoya Thangal who is accused along with M C Kamaruddin MLA in fashion gold jewellery scam. On Saturday, a special investigation team has summoned him but he didn’t appear before the probe team. Sources say fearing arrest he has gone undercover.

The testimony given by M C Kamaruddin to probe team during questioning is also out. Kamaruddin has said that Pookoya Thangal who is the MD of the jewellery has betrayed him. He said that as he was active in politics he was unaware of the business going on in the jewellery. “Even though I was the chairman of the jewellery, it was only for namesake, it was Pookoya Thangal who carried out all transactions and controlled all business. Thangal misled us saying that the jewellery business is going fine,” Kamaruddin said in his testimony.

Meanwhile, As local body polls are around the corner, the cheating case against Kamaruddin and Pookoya Thangal has put the party and the front in a defenceless position. Therefore sources say that League would take strong action against Kamaruddin. The party’s high-level meet which will be held on Sunday at Kozhikode is expected to measures to be taken against Kamaruddin. A prominent faction within the group has asked the leadership to oust Kamaruddin from the party and compel him to resign from MLA post.

The remand report of police shows that the cases registered against Kamaruddin are under the IPC sections of 420, 406 and 409. These charges are imposed on him on the cases of misusing the assets of investors and for involving in the criminal conspiracy while holding the post of a legislator.

The remand report also says that the accused in the case bought land in Bengaluru with the investor’s money. It further says that the MLA has illegally acquired private assets and details of the land bought in Bengaluru has not been furnished under the asset documents of the jewellery.
