kamaruddin

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: At a time when the opposition was going on with strong protests against the government raising issues of Bineesh Kodiyeri and gold smuggling case, the arrest of Muslim League MLA M C Kamaruddin has come as a jolt to the UDF and Muslim League, especially at a time when local body polls are around the corner. The left front is planning to start an impactful campaign over the arrest of M C Kamaruddin and along with that government has made moves to raise the cases of solar and bar bribery once again, in order to put UDF in a defenceless position.

The LDF government which was proceeding with populist measures expecting another five-year term, received an unexpected sucker punch when the gold smuggling case came to light. In order to regain the image lost through gold smuggling case, the government proclaimed 100-day programmes and completed many developmental programmes on time but BJP using central probe agencies is trying to tighten the noose against the government.

Putting the chief minister’s office under the shade of suspicion, central agencies have put their probe on fast-track mode which has further put the LDF under trouble. When the opposition has also strengthened its attack against the government with the intention of electoral dividends, the government has retaliated through Kamaruddin’s arrest.

CPM has realised the helplessness of UDF and the League’s leadership to justify the cases against Kamaruddin but the latter has already alleged political vendetta as the reason for the arrest which held just before the local body polls.

In solar case, the crime branch is gearing up for interrogating former minister A P Anil Kumar as the recording of evidence and the testimony of the complainant has been completed in the case.

Meanwhile, in the bar bribery case, vigilance has started a probe against Ramesh Chennithala, K Babu and V S Shivakumar in the wake of new revelations made by whistleblower Biju Ramesh.

However, in the Palarivattom flyover case, submission of charge sheet against former minister V K Ibrahimkunju is on the last phase. A vigilance case has also been registered against P T Thomas in connection with the land transaction case. Therefore, in the coming days, Kerala is going to witness events which could trigger a political turmoil in the state.
