KOZHIKODE: The court ordered the vigilance to register case and conduct a probe against K M Shaji MLA in the case of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Kozhikode vigilance court judge K V Jayakumar directed vigilance SP to conduct an initial probe. The action was taken on the complaint of advocate M R Harish.
Meantime, the enforcement will record the statement of K M Shaji’s wife in the same case. His wife Asha appeared before the ED office in Kozhikode. The ED is examining whether he amassed wealth as part of the case that he received Rs 25 lakh as bribe in permitting plus two batch in Kannur Azhikode School.
His houses in Kannur and Kozhikode were surveyed on the details of his assets given by Shaji to the enforcement. The corporation had found that there was illegal construction in the house in Kozhikode. The house in Kannur bought in his wife’s name in 2012 was valued at Rs 7 lakh and land at Rs 10 lakh. The enforcement had earlier questioned League leader and former member of PSC T T Ismail in plus two bribery case. During the six-hour long interrogation, Ismail asserted that three people bought Shaji’s land in Vengeri and the house was built by Shaji.
