THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State police chief Loknath Behera has directed all district police chiefs that there should not be any reluctance in addressing the grievances of the transgender community. He also directed the officials to investigate and take necessary actions if there is any misconduct against transgender people from the part of police officers.

The aim of the government is to bring the transgender community into the mainstream of society and enable them for social, economic and cultural upliftment. Therefore, the state police chief has urged that the directive should be strictly followed.

Complaints of wrongdoing or aggression against the members of the transgender community should be investigated and legal action must be taken immediately. They should not be ill-treated for any reason. In an order to the district police chiefs, Behera said that it was necessary to protect the rights of a marginalized group like the transgender community.
