NEW DELHI: When results of Bihar polls are out, only tally of losses will be there in the account of the Congress party. Rahul Gandhi’s election rallies across the state did not turn into votes. The Congress which contested 70 seats in the Grand Alliance is leading only in 21 seats. The only thing the Congress can point out is that it has increased its vote share when compared to last time.

The RJD reluctantly gave so many seats to the Congress. Lalu Prasad Yadav had in the first phase of polls stated that the Grand Alliance can accomplish gains if RJD contests in more seats. Socialist politics eradicated the congress from Bihar. The Congress was unable to make any significant movement despite standing with the same socialists. Who will take responsibility of the defeat and how the congress leadership will explain it.

It was Tejashwi Yadav who was adamant in giving 70 seats to congress. Many were against it and Yadav wanted Congress with them and move forward. The controversy is likely to continue even after the announcement of results as the expected performance was not witnessed.

Leaders like Randeep Singh Surjewala and Avinash Pandey reached Patna soon after the exit poll results with the aim of thwarting the bid of captivating leaders. Moreover, the Congress leaders aimed to initiate alliance talks. However, the election result was beyond what the leadership expected.

The BJP is emerging the single largest party in states where bypolls are held. The party's continuous defeats and the absence of a permanent president are creating a situation within the Congress that could explode.
