KOCHI: Swapna Suresh, accused in the gold smuggling case gave crucial statement against M Sivasankar, former principal secretary and the office of the chief minister. Some in the office of the chief minister knew about the gold smuggling. Swapna told the ED that Sivasankar knew all details about the bribe. She said this when the ED questioned her in jail.
The enforcement custody of M Sivasankar, former principal secretary to the chief minister, has been extended for one more day. The report of the ED in the gold smuggling case has put the office of the chief minister on the defensive. The plea seeking extension of Sivasankar’s custody levelled serious allegation against the office of the chief minister.
Sivasankar and his team knew about the smuggling of gold and electronic items via diplomatic channel, the report of the ED said. This team is in the office of the chief minister. The ED also said Sivasankar knew about the corruption in Life Mission and K Phone. It was Sivasankar who brought UNITAC MD Santhosh Eapen and paved way for the bribery, ED’s custody plea said.
