THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The affidavit of the enforcement has tightened the noose against M Sivasankar, former principal secretary to the chief minister, in the gold smuggling case. The affidavit asserted that Sivasankar was aware of the gold smuggling and he facilitated it. It was Sivasankar who advised where to invest the money got from smuggling, the ED said.
Sivasankar actively involved in getting the bag containing gold released. He had also planned to open a third locker in Swapna’s name. The ED said that he had sent a whatspp message regarding it on November 11 in 2019. The enforcement clarified this in the affidavit filed against Sivasankar's bail plea.
Sivasankar had told the ED that he called the customs officer as per the demand of Swapna. This shows that Sivasankar had misused his official post. The details of the Life Mission project was handed over to Swapna before the tender documents were opened. This act of Sivasankar questions the credibility of the bid process, ED told the court.
Sivasankar planned to open a third locker as the revenue from smuggling was increasing. Sivasankar had informed ED that he called a senior customs officer for the release of the diplomatic baggage.
Meantime, Sivasankar who is in enforcement custody will be produced in the court today. The ED may request the court to remand him as his custody ends. The court will be considering his bail plea also.
