CHERTHALA: The SNDP Yogam and the SN Trust have launched an action plan with the aim of increasing the representation of community members in the civil service by adopting talented students and imparting examination training.

In the first phase, a year-long training will be imparted to 20 selected candidates from different parts of the state. About 250 candidates applied for the scheme. Out of the 41 candidates who passed the entrance examination held in Kollam for them, 20 were selected through interviews.

SNDP general secretary Vellapally Natesan said the aim of the project was to bring community members to key positions in power. Civil service exam training benefit is available only to minorities. Others from backward communities are not considered along with them. The recipients of this benefit have assumed key positions of power.

The money needed for the selected children was found with the help of well-wishers. The 20 include the economically backward and the better off. Full assistance will be given to the poor. Others will be given scholarships. Vellapally said that the formation of a civil service academy under the leadership of the SNDP meeting is under consideration. Vellapally handed over the picture of the Guru to all the selected students.
