THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The people of the state will understand the political vendetta being carried out by the government using vigilance, said opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala. The chief minister is directly intervening in the case. The vigilance arrested the former minister as they could not bear the pressure exerted on them. The Left Front wanted this arrest, alleged Chennithala.

The vigilance who set out listening to the government should remember that there is law and court in the state. The move to weaken the UDF will be dealt with and this is to divert attention from the gold smuggling case, he said.

Muslim League leader P K Kunhalikutty’s response was that the arrest of Ebrahim Kunju was unwarranted. This arrest is politically motivated. LDF convenor had asserted it earlier, he said.

The arrest is according to the list prepared. This is a drama to balance the government’s other controversies and issues. There were hints earlier that he would be arrested. This is sheer misuse of power. If he had to be arrested, he should have been arrested then, he said.
