THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The prosecution has told the court that there could be only three reasons for Sister Abhaya's death and the circumstantial evidence shows that she was murdered.
The reason Sister Abhay died was either suicide, or accidental fall into a well, or murder. According to the CBI, this was a murder. The final prosecution hearing took place in a closed courtroom. The defense attorney requested that the hearing should be in a closed courtroom as the sexual references and medical examination results that may occur during the argument will violate the privacy of the defendants. In view of that, the court decided to hear the case in a closed courtroom.
Abhaya's parents had visited her at the convent the week before she was killed. Abhaya, who spoke to all of them very happily, had no circumstances to commit suicide. Fellow inmates also saw Abhay with great joy at the convention held the day before her death. The prosecution argued that people with common sense cannot assume that Abhaya, who was happy, would commit suicide.
Abhaya was killed between 4 am and 5 am. There is no need for Abhaya to go near the well at this time. The wall of the well in the convent was more than 55 cm high. Therefore, it cannot be considered that she accidentally tripped and fell into the well. The prosecution told the court that the only possibility left is murder. Prosecutors added there were testimonials that items were scattered in the kitchen as a sign of a fight. The arguments in the case will continue on Friday.
