THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister K T Jaleel’s Ph.D is as per rules, said vice chancellor of the Kerala University. The vice chancellor who rejected flaws in the Ph.D handed over the report to the Governor. Save University Campaign Committee approached the governor claiming his thesis as dubious academic merit. The thesis was about the role of ‘Variamkunnathu Kunjahammed Haji and Ali Musliar in the Malabar Rebellion.’
Jaleel got his Ph.D in 2006. The thesis is nothing but a disordered compendium of quotes from various sources with very little inferences by the researcher. The complainants claimed that there were mistakes and grammatical errors and that it should be re-examined.
Save University Forum lodged a complaint to the Governor when K T Jaleel was questioned by the National Investigation Agency alleging mistakes in his thesis. Following that, the Governor referred the complaint to eh Kerala University. The VC rejected the complaint but Save University Forum demanded that the case should be investigated by an expert panel.
Not publishing the thesis in university’s site raises suspicion. The complaint against the Minister of Higher Education was investigated by the VC of a university coming under him. Therefore, the investigation is not transparent, alleged the complainants. The Governor’s further move will be crucial for Jaleel.
