THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has issued a state of alert in Kerala after the Central Meteorological Department warned that the low-pressure in the Bay of Bengal could turn into a cyclone on Tuesday morning. Kerala will receive heavy rains from Wednesday. The CM also said that there is a possibility of floods, sea-level rise and landslides. The CM added that steps have been taken to open relief camps.

The CM also said that the water level in the dams was being closely monitored for possible heavy rains. He said small dams could be opened if heavy rains continue. Fishing off the coast of Kerala has been fully restricted. The CM said that those who went to sea were given immediate instructions to return.

On Wednesday, an orange alert was issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts and a yellow alert in Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam districts. A red alert was issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts and an orange alert was issued in Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts on Thursday. An orange alert was also declared in the southern districts on Friday.
