THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Election Commission has said that the forthcoming local body elections in the state will meet all the Covid safety norms. The Commission added that special facilities will be provided for postal voting for Covid patients and those under observation.
Postal ballots are recorded by handing out special ballot papers to Covid patients and those in quarantine. Preparations will begin 10 days before the election. A list of Covid patients and those in quarantine will be prepared. The electorate collects the number of postal voters from the list provided by the health department. The Election Commission said that from Tuesday, postal votes will be registered at their homes.
The five districts where elections will be held on December 8 have 24621 special postal voters so far. Of these, 8568 are infected and 15053 are under observation. The commission also said that voters wearing PPE kits should change their masks if requested by agents.
