It is a thing of big relief that Burevi cyclone cruised past Kerala-Tamil Nadu coats without causing damaging though a calamity was expected…

As soon as it touched the land, the cyclone shed its fierce form and transformed itself into an intense low pressure area. Though there was heavy rain wind, there was no other wreckage caused by Burevi.
Buveri’s transformation gives respite to the people and the governments of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Though the government won’t be able to resist the cyclones, which are one of the rare phenomena of the nature, it will be able to provide protection from big calamities caused by it.

This time, governments of Kerala and Tamil Nadu provided a generous example of how this could be done.

The governments had taken all preparations to face the cyclone which was thought to be imminent till Friday night.
The governments had evacuated people from areas prone to cyclone and landslide.
Even trees that stood in the path of the anticipated cyclone were cut down at war-footing.
Holidays were declared in Alappuzha, Kollam, Idukki, Pathanamthitta and Thiruvananthapuram.

PSC and University exams of Friday were postponed.
Extensive arrangements were made in Southern districts in order to face a big danger.

More than 2000 camps were opened to relocate the evacuated people. The government can take pride in the arrangements.

As the memories of Ockhi that hit Kerala three years ago still haunt Kerala, the government this time had taken care to not make any lapse in preparations for rescue operations.
This is the reason why all forces including Disaster Management Task Force were also kept ready to face any eventuality.
Even forces were ready in sky and sea to manage the anticipated calamity.

This was big relief for people. The State had also learnt lessons from two floods that followed Ockhi.
Now technology has also been developed to forecast cyclone and floods.
At a time when technology had not developed so much, several cyclones that took birth in the deep part of the Bay of Bengal had caused great miseries.
But eventually, the situation improved when weather forecast and weather studies also improved.
Now it reduces the loss to human lives even in times of most dangerous cyclones.
But for humans, what looks to be invincible is the earthquake.
Recent calamities in Kerala show that the state is not fee from climatic changes happening across the globe.
Landslides has become a common factor that go along with floods.
Mountain ranges mostly pose threat to human settlements at the foot of the valleys.
Human interference in eco-sensitive zones has also been a reason for natural calamity. Most mountain ranges pose danger. Despite experts’ warning against this, neither the government nor people are ready to change their attitude.

It was proved that 2018 great floods were the result of the human interference that exceeded limits.
As bad memories created by floods began to wane away, people and the government returned to square one.
Now, at least for the future generation, people and the government should be alert enough to protect and conserve nature.
