THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A Covid-19 patient gave birth in a 108 ambulance while she was being shifted to a government hospital. The incident took place in Malappuram district the other day. Both the mother and the infant girl were admitted to Manjeri Medical College Hospital and are fine.

The 30-year-old woman tested positive for COVID-19 after she underwent testing before getting admitted to the Tirurangadi Taluk hospital for delivery. Following this, she was referred to the Manjeri Medical College.

However, the woman started experiencing labour pain while she was being shifted to the Medical College in an ambulance. As her condition worsened, the technician realised that the delivery had to be done right away. Following this, the ambulance was stopped and the woman gave birth under the care of an emergency medical technician at around one in the afternoon.

Soon after giving first aid, the mother and baby were admitted to Manjeri Medical College. It was Kanivu 108 Ambulance emergency medical technician P.K. Jeris and pilot Mohammad Riyaz who assisted the woman.
