THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The first phase of the Kerala local body election will take place on Tuesday. A total of 24,584 candidates are in the fray in the five districts where the first phase of polling will take place. Polling will be held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Idukki districts by adhering to COVID protocols. A total of 88.26 lakh voters will go to polling booths across the five districts.
An hour has been set aside for those affected by COVID and those under surveillance to cast their votes via post. There are 11,225 booths in total and 56,122 election officials. All the officials will be provided with sanitizers, face shields, PPE kits and masks. The distribution of polling materials will start at 8 am today at the district headquarters. The COVID protocol has also been released. Polling stations will also be supervised by health workers.
