MAVELIKKARA: The Left Front candidate in the seventh ward of Chettikulangara Grama Panchayat collapsed and died on Sunday. The deceased, Mahadevan Pillai (64), was CPM's candidate. The incident took place at 8.25 last night.

According to sources, Mahadevan Pillai reached home at night and was writing slips when he collapsed. Though he was rushed to the nearby private hospital, doctors were not able to save his life. He had worked as an English teacher at various educational institutions in central Travancore region. He is survived by wife Krishnakumari and son Rohit M Pillai.
