KOLLAM: A labourer, who went inside a well to pour fuel in the motor, died after inhaling the smoke and falling into the well. The deceased has been identified as Nilamel native Abdul Jaleel (58).
The incident occurred at around 12.30 pm at Nilamel while Jaleel was draining the well that belonged to Kaithakuzhy Abdul Kareem in order to clean it. While the water was being drained from the well, the motor suddenly stopped working. Following this, Jaleel went inside the well thinking that the motor might have run out of fuel. While refuelling the motor, he fell unconscious into the well. Although his companion went inside the well to rescue him, he was forced to climb due to shortness of breath. Soon, the fire force was informed. A team of firefighters led by station officer Rajendran found that the well was filled with smoke from the motor. inside the well filled with smoke.
Abdul Jaleel's body was finally recovered from the deep well after a two-hour effort to remove the smoke with an exhaust blower. He is survived by wife Aishabeevi, children Jasmine, Jesna and Binsha.
