THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A large crowd is witnessed in the centre in Thiruvananthapuram where polling materials are distributed for the first phase of local elections. The officials flocked to the distribution center en masse without following adhering to COVID guidelines.
The health guidelines were violated and a large crowd was witnessed at the distribution centre in Nalanchira Sarvodaya Vidyalaya. The officials who came to accept the polling materials did not maintain social distancing. Many officials did not wear masks. There was no one at the distribution centre even to give COVID guidance to the officers.
The guidelines were violated in the capital city at a time when the health department has warned to follow COVID protocol. The distribution of polling materials started at various centres from 8 am this morning. Sanitizers will be given along with the polling materials including the voting machine.
The distribution of polling materials to the three tier panchayats is on block basis. 11,225 booths will be set up for the first phase of elections. Booths will be disinfected today in accordance with COVID protocol. Polling officials must wear face shields, masks and gloves during polling. Elections will be held tomorrow in five districts including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta and Idukki.
