MUNNAR: Three persons including a UDF candidate were arrested on Tuesday for distributing liquor to influence voters. The arrested have been identified as SC Raja, the UDF candidate contesting in the fifth ward of the Pallivasal panchayat in Munnar, his companions Pichamani and Murugan.

The incident took place at around 2 pm on Tuesday. Raja was serving liquor to the voters when a police team under the leadership of Munnar SI Santhosh reached the Meghdoot resort near Pothamedu first ward following a tip-off. It was found that the candidate was also drunk. Liquor was also seized from the resort. It is learnt that he had bought liquor earlier ahead of the elections. Police said that a case would be registered against the resort where the liquor was served.
