When the LSG polls got over in five districts on Tuesday, one of the complaints that were raised against the poll process was the flaw in the voters’ list.
Ironically, even Chief Electoral Officer Teeka Ram Meena could exercise his franchise.
It was a shame to the state electoral officer.
Not only Meena about 30 top officers including the chief secretary could not vote since their names could not find place in voters’ list.
Many commoners also had to face the same plight.
Though big arrangements were made to update the list and sort names in the list, there were serious flaws. Let us conclude like that. Even some members in a family couldn’t vote due to this lapses. Though the authorities can argue that it is the responsibility of the citizen to check for any miss, they can’t hide their fault.
From the beginning there has been controversies surrounding the voters’ list.
Finally what was updated was the voters’ list of 2015.
If this job of updating the voters’ list was done accurately, such a goof-up would not have happened.

Errors in voters’ list is not uncommon. It was only because of the hard work of political leaders that the voters’ list is atleast this much credible.
They will always be at your service for revise or make changes in the voters’ list.
Actually, there is need for only one voters’ list since election is happening every five year. And here what is ridiculous is every election there will be a new voters’ list.
Despite the advancement in technology, archaic system used in 1947 is used now also to revise voters’ list.
Recently, the Prime Minister also suggested a single voters' list for Lok Sabha, assembly and panchayat polls, saying separate lists are a waste of resources. Legislature, Executive and Judiciary should work with better coordination and national interest should be the basis for every decision, PM Modi said.
Once the name of a person enters the list as and when he attains 18, the name should remain there even if he changes his residence.

Revolutionary changes made in ration card should also be brought in voters’ list.
It is high time we thought about it.

Just finger print would be enough to identify voters. This will also help to make the process easy and reduce the expense. Fake votes, booth rigging and anomalies could also be curbed by this. The amazing possibilities of IT are yet to be explored in the polls.

Voting Machine was the only innovation but attempts are going on to sabotage it also.
Even the Congress party which has ruled the country for 60 years is in the forefront among people who stand for return to ballot papers.
However, we need only one voter list for all elections.
Second phase of LSG polls is on December 10. The turnout of voters was comparatively high things during the first phase of polling. The election was smooth and peaceful. The only complaint was that Covid protocol was not strictly followed in some places.
In the second and third phase polling, this complaint should be addressed.
