PATHANAPURAM: Man who attempted suicide due to the grief over the demises of his wife, son, brother and sisters and pain of his illness, passed away. Retired Air Force officer Raghavan Nair (72) of Srisailam from Pathanapuram Pidavoor Arivithara succumbed to death on the second day after attempting suicide by jumping on to a pyre.

Fifteen years ago, his son Harikumar diagnosed with a brain tumor, and ten years ago, his wife Sudha who was diagnosed with cancer, passed away. The death of three sisters and his nephew devastated Raghavan Nair. According to the relatives, he was deeply saddened after the death of his elder brother Prabhakaran Nair, whom he loved like a friend. In the meantime, he was diagnosed with brain tumor during a check-up last week. Following this, he set fire near his son's memorial and jumped into it.


Neighbors and relatives rushed to the scene after hearing screams and took him to the hospital. He was rushed to Trivandrum Medical College Hospital with severe burns but died shortly after noon on Thursday.

Raghavan Nair settled his account at milk, newspaper and grocery stores before attempting suicide. Funeral services will be held today at 4 p.m. Pathanapuram police registered a case.
