News arriving from various districts daily shows that Covid transmission is continuing as a challenge in Kerala.
Reopening of temples and shops may be a cause for the spread of disease. The after-effect of massive turnout in LSG election is yet to be known.
Authorities are making preparations in anticipation of the impending danger. When there is a decrease in Covid cases in most of the states, it is not happening in Kerala. The Covid tally is continuing without much change and this may increase if the daily tests are increased.
The change in people’s attitude towards the disease and crowding in public places are the reasons for the spread of the disease.
It seems that people have completely stopped to be alert and cautious.
Take the case of Guruvayur temples that had to be closed as some employees turned Covid positive. It is not know how many of the devotees who went there will have returned with disease.
Similar is the case in Sabarimala, where there is a wide demand to increase the number of devotees allowed per day to 2000 from 1000.More devotees means more money for Devaswom board but what is more important is the health of the people.
Now, Christmas and New Year are nearing and chances for heavy rushes in public places and shops will be more. If let loose, people will go on contracting or spreading Covid and so restrictions will have to be tightened.
It is also time for reduction sales. It was the other day, a shopping mall in Thiruvananthapuram city was forced to close after it drew crowds by announcing new sale offers.
All have to remember that the pandemic is still prevailing and hence the government’s guidelines will have to be followed.
All should have the wisdom that restrictions are for themselves and others in their families and society.
Some people takes protocols at lighter vein and this should not be allowed. They should give priority to the health of others in society.
Meanwhile, the chief minister has called a meeting of officers concerned for deciding on the reopening of schools and colleges.
Now the Covid situation looks like the one we had in initial days of Covid when we had to go for stringent restrictions.
Crowding in public places should be restrained. Protest rallies, demonstrations and gatherings should be avoided for some more days.
It should be ensured that social distancing rules are followed in shops and institutions. Action should be taken against those who flout these rules.
Restrictions now should not be loosened till the Covid vaccines arrive.
On and off concessions given to restrictions has been the reason for increase in Covid cases. Therefore people should follow all Covid protocols till the vaccine becomes widely available.
