KOZHIKODE: High turnout is being recorded in the fourth phase of local body polls. Seven and a half-hour since the polling has started, polling rate has crossed over 70 per cent. Almost all district which went for polls on Monday has recorded over 70 per cent of voter turnout. Among the four districts, highest polling was recorded in Malappuram and Kannur.

Reports of fights between party workers have come out from two areas in Malappuram. In the brawl which ensued between UDF and LDFR workers, UDF’s woman candidate got wounded. BJP candidate in Kodanchery, Kozhikode, Vasu Kunjan suffered severe injuries as a wild boar attacked him. He was later admitted in a private hospital. A woman who returned home after voting collapsed and died in Beypore. The dead person is identified as Devi from Beypore.

Brawl between LDF and UDF workers has also been reported in the sixteenth ward of Thanoor Municipality. Former councillor Lamih Rahman was injured. The fight between the two groups occurred on the allegation of influencing voters. In Pariyaram panchayat, Kannur CPM workers allegedly attacked Congress booth agent Nisar.

Anthoor, a left stronghold in Kannur witnessed skyrocketing polling rates. High polling was recorded here in all elections. Almost all polling booths in this area witnessed more than 90 per cent turnout. In the past elections also, certain booths in Anthoor has witnessed 99 per cent polling.
