The news that finally Alappuzha bypass is going to be opened for transport is going to script a new chapter in the history of Kerala Road Transport.

It is not one or two years. To be precise, the concept of bypass took birth 48 years ago. But why did it got procrastinated. This would be a good and exemplary topic for those who study about mismanagement in development.

During this period ten ministries came to power alternately. There were a lot of announcements during each election. This bypass was one of the main promises of all the candidates contesting from Alappuzha.

It is not only the fault of those who contested for MPs and MLAs could not deliver on their promises.

Many hurdles popped up one by one locally and from elsewhere during different stages.

Lack of coordination between departments often hinders such projects. Although it is a project of general importance, the attitude between the departments is like that of an enemy country.

Although it is a project of general importance, the approach between the departments is as if it is a matter of the countries on war path. An example of this is the recent objection of the Alappuzha bypass by the railways.

Once any project is materialized, an effort should be made to put it into use as soon as possible. The cost will continue to increase each month if the project is delayed. When the Alappuzha bypass, which is less than 7 km long, is completed, the cost will jump to Rs 348 crore.

When the Alappuzha bypass, which is less than 7 km long, is completed, the cost will jump to Rs 348 crore. If the work had been completed at least two decades ago, the cost would not have been even a quarter of this.

Money that should be used for other things is wasted thus through mismanagement.

Whatever it be the good news that Alappuzha bypass will be ready for inauguration will welcome.

There are hints that PM Modi will be inaugurating the bypass.
Let all the black marks it aquired during the course of its making disappear with the realisation of the Alappuzha bypass.

On the other hand this bypass will surely find a place in the history of the country’s construction for being the construction that took the longest time for completion.
