The probe is being led by a team under Nandakumar Nair. The CBI team which visited the site made a detailed inquiry there for evidence. Later they asked for details of Sarathlal's Father’s brother and other people who reside in nearby areas. They also recreated the incidents which led to the murder in the presence of other witnesses and people in the area. Two Youth Congress activists namely, Kripesh and Sharathlal were murdered in Periya on 2019 February 17. The youths who were travelling in bikes were attacked and killed by a gang of murderers.
Following the verdict issued by a single bench of the high court asking CBI to take up the case in 2019 october, the premier agency took up the probe. But the government approached the high court division bench against the single bench’s order. The government which reached in Supreme Court as the division bench also refused to take up their plea, received no respite from the apex court as it also rejected the government’s contention and ratified the high court’s order.
CBI has also informed the court that even after writing to the crime branch seven times asking to transfer the documents and other details of investigation, they remain silent. An SC headed by Justice L Nageshwar Rao rejecting the government’s appeal, asked the crime branch to immediately handover the case diary to CBI officials on December 2. Following this, CBI started the probe on the case on Tuesday.
The case in which CPM leaders in the area are chief accused, also involves certain high profile state leaders according to the testimonies given by parents of slain Kripesh and Sarathlal.
