VADAKARA: Vadakara MP and senior Congress leader K Muraleedharan has said that Jamaat-e-Islami is a secular islamist organisation. “The organisation has abandoned its earlier stand of islamist nation with the defeat in the past lok sabha polls. Thus they have become a secular islamist organisation and therefore UDF entered into electoral pacts with them,” Muraleedharan said.
The senior Congress leader also added that after a regional pact is made, party workers are bound to obey it, otherwise leadership will take action against them. Muraleedharan said that in Mukkam there are problems in the party even before the polls have commenced. He also added that the controversies surrounding the welfare party at Kallamalai will not affect UDF in the elections. BJP will not rule any municipality in Kerala with the support of UDF. He also added that CPM is attacking UDF workers in Kannur and Kozhikode districts out of fear of defeat.
However, KPCC president Mullpally Ramachandran denied the claims of Muraleedharan. Congress doesn’t have any electoral understanding with the welfare party of Jamaat-e-Islami. No such directions have been given. As the president of KPCC mine is the last word on the issue. AICC doesn’t consider Jamaat-e-Islami as a secular organisation. Mullapally’s reaction comes after Muraleedharan’s unofficial warning to party workers of action if they don’t cooperate with the welfare party. Mullapally also added that can’t reply to an experienced leader like Muraleedharan. He also demanded an independent probe mediaperson S V Pradeep’s mysterious death and said nobody could become merchants of death other than CPM.
