THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The counting of votes for the local body polls in Kerala will take place on Wednesday. The counting will commence at 8 am across the state while all the three fronts remain on the edge looking forward to proving a point in the state.
Counting would take place as per COVID protocol. Postal votes, including the special votes polled by COVID-19 patients, would be counted first. As many as 941 gram panchayats, 152 block panchayats, 87 municipalities, 14 district panchayats and six corporations are up for grabs in these elections.

While the ruling LDF is hoping for a smashing victory banking on the welfare measures taken during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Congress-headed United Democratic Front (UDF) is hoping to corner the LDF over corruption cases most notably involving the Chief Minister's Office in a gold smuggling case. Meanwhile, the NDA hopes to secure more seats by banking on the development programmes initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
