THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The party is likely to probe the pathetic defeat of the UDF in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. Indications are that an investigation commission will be appointed for it. The UDF was pushed to the third place where a thumping victory was expected in many wards. The party was not in the picture even in wards where they were in the second place last time and in the winning wards.
The activists expressed displeasure against senior leaders during electioneering. There were major flaws in the selection of candidates in many places. The activists complained against this but the leadership paid no heed to it. When the BJP swept seats in wards of Nemom constituency, the congress could only stare at it.
There was also a lapse in allocating seats to the allied parties. The UDF was able to announce their candidates only after the other two fronts announced their candidates. Even if power is not obtained, the leaders expected to garner almost thirty seats in the corporation. The party was exhausted by the inactive organisational structure.
The UDF got less than 500 votes in 12 wards. The UDF was able to garner only 74 votes in Nedungad and 42 in Valiyathura. Many prominent leaders including a former minister in the capital city are presently blamed for the party's poll debacle. It is indicated that the investigating commission is to appease the dissidents.
