THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains in the state from Friday. Authorities have issued yellow alerts in seven districts of the state tomorrow. A yellow alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts tomorrow.
Heavy rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is forecast in isolated places in 24 hours. The meteorological department said this in a press release issued on Thursday afternoon. A lightning alert has been issued in various parts of the state.
The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast isolated thundershowers in Kerala from December 17 to 19. The risk of thunderstorms is high between 2 pm and 10 pm. Lightning is likely to be active in the hilly region.
Such lightning is dangerous and can cause great damage to human life and to appliances connected to electricity. The State Disaster Management Authority has declared lightning a state-specific disaster. The Met Dept said such precautions should not be avoided even if the thunder not visible.
