THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As many as 5456 people tested positive for the virus on Friday, Health Minister KK Shailaja said.

Among these, 4722 persons developed the disease through contact including 606 cases without an identified source of infection. 91 persons who came from outside the state also tested positive for the virus. 37 health workers tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 4701 patients tested negative for the virus today. As of now, there are 58,884 active cases in the state.

The state confirmed 23 deaths due to the virus on Friday with the toll rising to 2757.

In the last 24 hours, 54,472 samples have been tested. The test positivity rate stands at 10.02.

With the addition of 5 new regions, there are 453 hotspots in the state.
