The decision of the government to reopen Classes 10 and 12 higher university classes will bring lots of happiness to students as well as the parents.
In the pandemic, the most affected sector was education when students turned sick of boredom and became depressed. More or less the students have remained shut inside their homes since last March.
The government had foreseen the possible disastrous outcome of reopening schools in the mist of the pandemic. That is why they waited and watched.
On the other hand, over the past two months, certain states planned to restart the academic year but they had to change the decision.
We can’t say that the pandemic is under control as even the other day around 5000 people tested positive.
The health department’s assessment is that till date, seven lakh people have contracted the disease but a vast majority of people have got cured of the disease.
The Kerala board exams 2021 for class 10 will be conducted between March 17 and March 30 as per the government’s announcement.
Those schools preparing for practical exams of SSLC and final-year Higher Secondary and Vocational Higher Secondary will begin classes on January 1, 2021.
Student counselling sessions to keep stress at bay and model tests for the upcoming board exams will be conducted at the school level once they reopen.
This will also be an opportunity to evaluate how far the digital classes had been successful. Plus Two students, who are making preparations for higher studies will be getting only around two months to be part of the non-virtual class.
The teachers should be able to make full use of this given time. Despite the online classes, a large chunk of students may need help and support in the studies. Much earlier discussed matter of reducing the syllabus should also be considered seriously. Any delay would bring students under unwarranted pressure.
College classes are also partially starting at the beginning of the New Year. Final year graduate classes will start first. Professional colleges will also be open from January 1.
In addition, other classes will continue to have online classes. Schools and colleges must adhere to strict regulations in the event of an epidemic. High School are also advised to conduct higher secondary classes on shift basis.

No decision has yet been taken regarding the annual examination for classes one to nine in the schools. There must be an immediate decision in this regard as well. Bringing millions of children to school for exams alone will be a big challenge in the current scenario.
So we need to find a practical way. Previously, the all-promotion system existed till the eighth class. Given the current special situation, there is no harm in adopting that system in the ninth class as well. Child safety is paramount.
